2014 International Year of Family Farming: Actualizing the Dignity of Family Farmers in Indonesia
Indonesian Center for Agriculture Social Economic and Policy Studies (ICASEPS) conducted a regular seminar on August 19, 2014 at the 4th floor of ICASEPS office, Jalan Ahmad Yani 70 Bogor. The seminar was attended by researchers of ICASEPS and participants from other institutions under the IAARD, Directorate General of Technical Supports under the Ministry of Agriculture, STPP lecturers, and other government organizations. The speaker of this seminar was Dr. Syahyuti (ICASEPS researcher) and the moderator was Dr. Hermanto (ICASEPS senior researcher).
Inauguration of Structural Echelon III and IV Officers of IAARD
“The mutation of structural position is a common reason in the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD) in order to constantly adapt the dynamic changes occurring in the acceleration period of the Second Curve”. This statement was conveyed by the Director of IAARD at the handover task (sertijab) of the Structural Echelon II officers and the inauguration of Structural Echelon II, IV, and V officers within IAARD on Wednesday (6 August 2014) at the Auditorium III of the Indonesian Center for Food Crops Research and Development (ICFCRD).

Price and Quality of Rice, and Rice Milling Industry Census of Central Bureau of Statistics (PIPA-BPS) 2012
A very interesting discussion was conducted at ICASEPS on 2 July 2014. The topic of discussion was “Price and Quality of Rice, and Rice Milling Industry Census of Central Bureau of Statistics (PIPA-BPS) 2012” presented by Prof. Dr. M. Husein Sawit (Daily Management Board of Research Professor Communication Forum/FKPR)”. The background of this discussion was basically anchored in two issues. First, why does the Indonesian rice price keep continuing increase and tend to be higher than those of exporter countries such as Viet Nam and Thailand? Second, why does Indonesia also vis-à-vis the widened gap between the prices of rice hull and rice kernel?
Introduction and Application of “General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS)” Software for Data Processing
Indonesia Center for Agriculture Socio Economic Policy Studies has conducted training on “Introduction and Application of General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS) Software for Data Processing” for four days, 3-6 June 2014, at ICASEPS office, Jl. A. Yani 70, Bogor. The speakers were the researchers of ICASEPS itself, namely Prof. Dr. Budiman Hutabarat and Adi Setiyanto, SP, MSi, and attended by around fifteen ICASEPS’ researchers and data programmers.
Coffee Morning “The Concept of Food Sovereignty”
In the effort to comprehend and to invite the researchers of ICASEPS to explore more deeply the concept of “food sovereignty”, the ICASEPS’ Coffee Morning activity held on Friday morning, 30 May 2014, raised it as a topic of discussion. In this occasion Dr. Syahyuti presented his paper entitled “Comprehending and Measuring Indonesia’s Food Sovereignty after 2014”. The topic was motivated by his concern that the concept of “food sovereignty” is misinterpreted, co-opted and claimed mistakenly by dominant parties so that it is misdirected.
